1. | As a profession, pharmacy is a part of health care. Pharmacy has been an ancient profession and it has undergone many changes as it evolved. The research for new medicines and manufacturing remains to be a specialization of highly qualified pharmacy professionals holding graduate, post graduate and doctoral degrees. But to dispense these medicines, in drug stores or hospitals, requires a pharmacist who has at least Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) qualification and is a registered pharmacist. |
2. | Thus D.Pharm. becomes minimum qualification for registration as a pharmacist in our country. The retail pharmacy (Drug stores, Medical shop or community pharmacy) can only be run legally by person having Diploma or higher qualification in pharmacy. Pharmacists have a specialized knowledge of manufacturing, usage, monitoring adverse effects, incompatibility of medicines. In fact pharmacist is a link between DOCTOR & PATIENT. |
3. | The knowledge and expertise required is gained from the course “Diploma in Pharmacy.” It includes 2 years of education and pre-registration training of 500 hours to register with the PCI (Pharmacy Council of India) as a registered pharmacist. D.Pharm course is oriented to understand good dispensing practice and patient care. Diploma in Pharmacy course helps the person for making career in the field of pharmacy. |
